The Key to Social Media Success Without The Overwhelm

Social media is overwhelming if you don’t have any processes in place. In this article I explain a few processes I use to avoid getting stuck in the weeds while growing on Instagram.

The reality is that we live in a society where it’s normal to feel like you need to be perfect.

The need to create the perfect content.

Perfect caption.

Perfect video.

Perfect comment.

Perfect website.

Perfect lead magnet.

The list goes on…

Growth on social media takes time, effort, dedication. It won’t happen overnight. If you’re struggling, it’s pretty standard. Stop waiting for everything to be perfect. I am going to take you through some quick content creation tips to get you on your way.

Generating leads on social media

Be proactive.

Instead of waiting for people to come to you, seek them out and get in touch with them. Comment on their posts, follow up with comments they’ve left on your account, follow them, or all of the above. You could send them a message introducing yourself and your business, asking if they would like more information about what you offer. (Try not to be salesy). You could also write a post introducing yourself and your business to people in your industry.

Here’s an easy example of what to DM someone:

Hi [name]! (Write their actual name, not just hi)

I saw you responded to my recent poll/question (in your IG stories), and I noticed you chose the [XYZ] option/answer.

If you would like further info on (the topic in the ?), I created a [insert your content or freebie] that I usually share with just my [clients/email subscribers].

Let me know if you’re interested!

Quality content

Create high-quality content that people will want to share with their friends, family, followers, etc. People are more likely to share something if they think it is helpful or interesting enough for someone else to see it.

To do content creation right, start with a list of ideas and don’t worry about the output until your content is actually created. Once you’ve come up with a good idea, you can go back and edit or rewrite it until it feels like something people would want to interact with.

I always write out ideas as they come to me in a notebook, notes app on my phone, audio notes on Otter, or anything I can grab at the moment. I add blogs, IG posts, articles, tweets, anything I find relevant to recreate and share. I add them into an excel spreadsheet and go back to it later.

Do you have a good idea for a post? If yes, write it down!

Keep track of what topics interest your followers and try to create content around those interests. If you’re unsure what to post about, search hashtags related to your industry on Instagram and Twitter for inspiration.

Take advantage of optimal posting times to reach your audience, using relevant hashtags in your posts, and finding people in your niche to target. If you’re just starting out, post at lunchtime and around 6.

Post consistently

You don’t need to post three times a day or even every single day. But you should be posting at least 1-3 times per week. Make sure you set aside a few hours each week to work on your own content. If you can set aside maybe 12 hours per month total, you can easily churn out a content calendar and a month’s worth of content.

Try breaking that up into smaller chunks until you can get into a flow. I usually work on all my content one day per week and batch it. Sometimes I do it on the weekends when clients do not need me.

Sometimes it’s hard, believe me- I know. I do this for a living, and I turn into a perfectionist when working on my own content. I sometimes only post 3 times a week, but I still make sure to engage every day to avoid losing momentum. Content quality is more important than how much content you create.

Don’t forget about engagement

Commit to spending time on creating content before trying to scale up your social media presence. Don’t forget to engage with your followers and potential leads. Engagement is a word that gets thrown around a lot when talking about social media. It’s just shorthand for how often you post, how many likes, shares, saves, or comments your posts get, and how engaged people are with what you have to say.

When you post hashtags, make sure to “follow” those hashtags, so they pop up in your feed. When you see them, click on them and click the “recent” tab. Then go through those hashtags and engage with the most recent posts. If someone isn’t using a scheduler, hopefully, they are online and will see that post in the moment. If not, it’s good to comment and like the post anyway. If they’re in your target market, give them a follow. Eventually, you can send them a DM to build a relationship with them.

Following the hashtags is an easy way to remember to engage with those hashtags from your feed- a quick time saver.

Try to respond to every DM. When you do this, the algorithm will push you into the feed of those who have DM’d you. This makes it easier for you to build connections and relationships. The algorithm also favors accounts that are receiving messages. Instagram has been pushing messaging and video lately more than any other feature.

Finally

If you want to generate high-quality leads on social media, be proactive and engage with people in your industry. It’s important that you create quality content at optimal times for your audience. Content creation takes commitment, so don’t expect it all overnight! Be patient with yourself when building a following – the best way is through deliberate practice. The key takeaway here is that generating more sales opportunities doesn’t need to take up most of your time or resources if you know what strategies work best for different stages in the buying process. If this post was helpful, please share it with someone who might find it beneficial as well!

If you are struggling with any of these, let’s set up a time to chat. I’d love to help.
